DocRaptor is used by organizations around the world to make better documents faster. We've shared some of their stories and successes below.
DocRaptor support goes above and beyond to help you understand your problems and make sure you're happy with the resolution.
Peter LumbisDirector of Technical Marketing and Documentation
Needing both high-quality PDF and Excel documents, Peter says, “Cumulus [acquired by Nvidia] tested a number of both paid and open source tools including LaTeX, Adobe and others. But DocRaptor’s API and flexibility make it a real standout.”
“We use the DocRaptor Python library for all content generation,” states Peter. ”It is exceptionally easy and a major reason why we stuck with DocRaptor after our initial evaluation. Plus, DocRaptor support is extremely helpful.”
“Prior to DocRaptor, our PDF generation was ad-hoc and required manual user intervention,” says Peter. “With DocRaptor, we can generate PDFs via an automated publishing process and ensure the PDFs match the latest documentation. The dynamic table of contents Prince provides even further improves the automation.
Nvidia Networking builds open-source software for modern data centers. Their customers need printed documentation while working inside data centers and their team needs Excel files from their custom bug management system.
“The easiest method to generate accessible PDFs, from HTML we found.”
We have definitely saved money and time. Without DocRaptor, we'd have to manage a server, pay for storage, and manage a whole piece of software tangential to our core business.

Clean Catalog needs documents with custom, per-customer branding (typography, colors, etc.) and they must meet strict accessibility standards, supporting students and faculty with vision impairments. The PDFs must be in a digital and printed format and created by a rendering engine reliable enough for an automatic pipeline.
DocRaptor’s SaaS-based model and Prince partnership allow Clean Catalog to easily create their complex PDFs. Functionally such as an automatic table of contents and tagged (accessible) PDFs from Prince “allows us to do all of that easily using just CSS and Javascript”, said Rory Douglas.
DocRaptor’s internal calculations show that our API is almost always more cost-effective than building and maintaining a self-hosted solution. Clean Catalog agrees. Rory emphasizes, “The cost of using Docraptor is probably the same or less than it'd be to host our own PDF solution, but we save a ton of time by not having to manage or troubleshoot software outside of our core business.”
Clean Catalog creates software for colleges and universities that manage course catalogs, curriculums, and student handbooks. Their fully customizable designs and layouts increase the complexity of their PDF catalogs.
“DocRaptor is stupid simple to use. Really happy with how fast it is.”
No stress and it just worked. We can just build it one time in JavaScript and HTML and trust that DocRaptor will print it beautifully.
Connor TumblesonLead Software Engineer
“I started with dompdf, wkhtmltopdf, PhantomJS, and who knows how many other solutions”, says Connor Tumbleson. “We pivoted to Headless Chrome to build something to load our page and screenshot it, but it was very hacky and only sometimes worked.”
Connor eventually discovered PrinceXML, which led him to DocRaptor and our budget-friendly SaaS model. After all the stress of other solutions, DocRaptor was easy and fast. Connor recalls, “a few more hours to finalize the styling for edge to edge design with page numbers and our reports were perfect.”.
Without DocRaptor, Connor says, “DevOps would be a stressful nightmare.” DocRaptor eliminates the burden of creating and self-hosting an internal service. Additionally, Connor adds, “we removed time and money spent on creating reports because we can just build it one time in JavaScript and HTML and trust that DocRaptor will print it beautifully.”
Sourcetoad develops applications for cruise ships. Their applications that make operations easier for the staff and bring convenience to guests. They need to create PDFs from complex, JavaScript-heavy reports.
“DocRaptor is an integral component of our learning management sytem and the best PDF conversion solution we have found.”
DocRaptor’s pricing, documentation, and excellent testing capabilities sold us.
Yoni ReinbergFounder & CTO
Like many DocRaptor users, Social Ink needs to generate many different types of documents—but all must be high-quality. “We internally create proposals, invoices, and other documents which are then either emailed or printed as necessary,” says Yoni Reinberg. They also need PDF generation in customer applications for “clients who need to generate filled out forms or on-the-fly reports.”
DocRaptor’s handling of any kind of PDF combined with ease of installation is perfect for Social Ink. “DocRaptor has great libraries across most of the programming languages we use.”, Yoni says. “And DocRaptor tutorials are solid, documentation is well written–with a human language touch–and the support/chat is personal and not automated.”
“We considered some hosted libraries (TCPDF) and explored a few other 3rd party solutions, “ explains Yoni, but “ultimately DocRaptor’s pricing and documentation sold us.” Yoni says, “The DocRaptor team does great work, makes you feel like you’re being supported, and doesn’t come off like a generic fly by night ‘2.0 startup’ venture.”
Social Ink is a full-service graphic and web design and development shop in the middle of Brooklyn’s tech triangle. For over 12 years they’ve worked with nonprofit, social justice, and educational organizations who do good work in NYC, the US, and internationally.
“ Pixel perfect matches from complex Vue graph components transformed into PDFs.”
If you need complete control of the document design, you need PrinceXML and DocRaptor.
Luiz RochaCTO
Rocha Jarude Advogados creates contracts, legal briefs, and other mission-critical documents via an integrated pipeline with tools such as Docmosis and Formstack Documents. But in the final step, they required a more sophisticated PDF generator to meet aesthetic and legal standards.
According to Luiz, “Prince's capabilities are indispensable for our use case. It enables us to programmatically generate PDFs with a more complex structure.” DocRaptor’s HTTP API allows Rocha Jarude to easily integrate Prince document generation into their AWS Lambda-based document pipeline.
Not only does DocRaptor save on development and maintenance costs, but our flexible billing structure also gives users ease of mind. “Time is money”, says Luiz, “We always think of quota usage and the ability to develop without worrying about using credits.”
DocRaptor is damn easy. And we like the online demo page for fiddling around.
Sven WolfermannDevelopment Consultant
Ullstein automates its e-book typesetting process with an entirely cloud-based infrastructure. Unfortunately, “most PrintCSS tools are meant for use on local machines or need a server license,” says Sven Wolfermann, Ullstein's development consultant.
“DocRaptor's licensing model fits perfectly for cloud infrastructure", reports Sven. With usage-based pricing, it doesn't matter how many servers or CPUs Ullstein uses. Sven also appreciated that DocRaptor's support team "helped us with some complex document issues within a day.”
“DocRaptor is the perfect solution to get our automated typesetting workflow running quickly, easily, and affordably,” says Sven. Now, every step of Ullstein's ebook publishing system is seamlessly automated, from Word to HTML and from HTML to ePUB.
Ullstein is a German book publisher and part of the Swedish Media Group Bonnier SA. Every year, its team publishes around 350 printed books and 500 e-books. It also maintains a book review platform in both English and German.
